I Can’t Feel My Fingers..

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Orange FlowerSo, today I coded for five hours straight, trying to get my Mum’s website done. It is only now that I realise my mistake: I haven’t tested in any other browser but Firefox since oh, two days ago? Two days worth of coding that may or may not be compatible with Internet Explorer. *sigh* Why does this happen to me? The site is looking good though.. just a few minor things to change, then a code clean-up and I’m done! Hopefully everything will look fine in IE. *crosses fingers*

Work was busy tonight; I think in the last half-hour we had three people sign up, and a whole heap of customers came in to browse then, too. I think they were out to get us, personally. See, at work we give out the DVD’s in jewel cases, along with the covers. Most people either take the covers, or tell us they don’t want them. Tonight, I had people on three separate occasions, bring DVD’s up to the counter and say “Those are the ones we don’t want.” *blink* Why, people? Why do you make me do more shelving, when I have huge piles right over there? *stab* Nah, just kidding. I don’t really want to stab them. *cough*

Anyway, I’m going to go and play Farm Frenzy for a bit, and kill some more brain cells.

Resolutions, Hair Cuts and Web Design.

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

My resolution for the new year is to write something everyday, and post it here. Sounds so easy.. but considering my success (*cough*) with NaBloPoMO, I’m guessing it will last a week. Maybe two. *shrug*

NYE was generally pretty low key; we went to Sunbury and watched the fireworks with Anthony and Nicole. Next year I am determined to go into the city and document the whole thing with my camera, and possibly a voice recorder.

This post is really short because I’m in the middle of cutting Rylee’s fur.. she may not be all that stylish, but at least she’ll be cool. She was panting non-stop in the heat today, and I’m worried about her losing weight or dehydrating under all that fur. We have a bag full so far, and there is still 1/4 of a puppy to do.

Oh! I wrote a poem today, but I’m still editing it. I will post it here when I’m done though.

I’m also currently in the middle of coding a layout for my Mum’s blog.. ugh. I did something to it, somewhere, but do you think I can find it? I’m considering commenting out ALL of the styling so I can maybe isolate the problem.. wish me luck!

Relatives, Ultima Online and Web Design.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Today I visited my Mum and siblings, since I haven’t seen them for awhile. Actually, I’m still there, but because my whole family is very tech-oriented, I’m allowed to be on the computer while I’m here and they still count it as time spent with them. Plus, my Mum is trying to get the yo-yo on speed (otherwise known as Katie) to sleep, and, well.. that just isn’t a very pretty sight.

I’ve enjoyed my visit so far, although coming home always reminds me of how much I miss them, and how many things I’m not a part of any more. I’m just the older sister who lives away from home now, and I don’t hold as big a place in the family any more. I used to think the girls would still idolise me, and that my relationship with my family wouldn’t change. How very wrong I was!

I play two Ultima Online shards, neither one regularly, and I think the time has come to kind of choose one, and leave the other. They both have advantages and disadvantages, and I’m not looking forward to choosing, but it’s reached the point where I’m actually getting frustrated at the differences between them. Like, I’ll be on one and I’ll be wishing I had some of the features that the other has, and vice versa. We’ll see.

I finished the graphic design for my Mum’s blog a few days ago, and now I just have to code it. I don’t think it will be that difficult, because I basically just have to code the webpage and stick Wordpress elements into it. I hope it goes smoothly, and it doesn’t turn out lovely in Firefox and ripped to pieces in Internet Explorer.

My weekend was awesome! How about yours?

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

I got back from Gentil’s a few hours ago, and I thought I would post about my weekend while I took a break from writing my HTML/CSS presentation. First of all, quote of the weekend (from me of course =P):

“I’m so smart I confuse myself.” I said that as an excuse for my blondeness, but I don’t think anyone fell for it. Second of all, Gentil has decided he wants to open his own school. The classes? Tee hee:

  • The Art of French Kissing
  • The Basics of Making Out
  • The Beauty of Sex
  • Fellatio101
  • Cunnilingus in Six Easy Steps

He’s terrible. None of those were thought up by me, either. *coughs*

We watched Saw II on Saturday night.. it was awesome. Makes me want to go and see Saw III sooo bad. I <3 the Saw movies. I had a fantastic weekend, minus the rather odd moodswing on Saturday night.. *shakes her head* Oh, and we got work done, too. So there, Chris! We don’t -only- make out! =P

That’s actually all I can think of right now.. *sigh* Back to the tutorial.. which I’m going to put up on this site when I’m finished. I’ve always wanted to write one (which is partly why I chose to for my end of year project), so I figure I may as well put it on my website.

OH! On Tuesday, I hope to buy my own domain name! *crosses fingers* I hope I can.. I so badly want my own domain. It’s so fetch! *coughs* That was NOT a Mean Girls quote.. really.. it wasn’t. *coughs again*

Alrighty, ciao people. (Which reminds me, I still haven’t redone the site.. *mutter* December, I promise.)

NaNoWriMo Update

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Well, unfortunately I won’t be uploading pictures of my new stationery. *sniffs* Damn camera. Anyway, maybe when the notebook is all tattered and written in, I’ll upload a pic then. For now, I want to write about my goals for NaNoWriMo.

My Goals for NaNoWriMo:

  • write it all, in a notebook, with a pencil
  • reach 50,000 words by the end of November
  • actually write something that I can be proud of
  • do it again next November

I know, not particularly spectacular. But still, they’re goals. Speaking of goals.. ugh. I have to write a HTML/CSS tutorial by next Monday, not to mention all the other work I have to do. *sigh* Stupid TAFE. I mean, I have some of the tutorial written already.. I guess it’s the actual presenting of it that I’m not looking forward to. Bleh. So for the next week, I’ll be focusing on:

  • HTML/CSS Tutorial
  • Computer Workstation Poster (just about done, really)
  • I.T Brochures (What a load of crap this one is.)
  • Some other assignment thing for Computers/WRS

Heh. TAFE is so fun. *mutters* I really don’t have that much to do, despite my whining. It’s just so boring and repetitive.

Currently, things at home are pretty stressful. Mum’s health seems to be improving though, which is the main thing. Everyone is getting on everyone else’s nerves though, and everyone is tense. Mum is sick of soup (and I don’t blame her - note to self, liquid diet not that great after all), and the kids are sick of never seeing Mum, being lectured by their aunty and having to listen to their big sister.

Oh, and Gentil and I discovered that if you buy a monthly Metcard, you can use it on weekends in all three zones, no matter what zone it’s bought for. Awesomeness.

Anyway, time to do some homework.

I have lots to write about!

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Today I have lots to write about. Not because a lot has happened, necessarily. Just because I feel like writing, and I’m sleep deprived. I seem to be getting into the habit of not sleeping one night, then sleeping the next. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; I get lots more done when I stay up all night. I’m actually kind of liking the whole 48 hour day thing. But anywho.

I -finally- finished the PostSecret gallery. Finally. And amazingly… it uses JavaScript! OMFG! WTF? TILSTAD!!!1*!!# Yes, that’s right, I am now the JavaScript master! *coughs* Okay, not really. It was really easy, but I figured it out on my own and so I’m proud. It’s a step towards actually understanding JavaScript. A tiny, teensy, baby step, but a step nonetheless. And understanding JavaScript is what I’m aiming for. =)

In other news, I have signed up for NaNoWriMo. That’s National Novel Writing Month for the uninitiated, and the aim is to write a 50,000 word novel (or novella, technically) in one month, starting on the 1st of November. I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to write about, and I’m not particularly interested in “winning” (that’s not the focus, anyway), I just thought it would be an interesting experience, and a challenge. There are actually people in Melbourne who do this, also.. so hoping to meet some like-minded people, perhaps. *crosses fingers* Gentil has signed up, too. As has Chris, and possibly Dana.

Dana is Chris’ co-worker, the one whom I had good feelings about. And I was right. Yep, yep. I was. *grin* And, signing up for NaNoWriMo (pronounced Nan - oh - ryhme - oh) offers some great perks. Like.. *drum roll* new stationery! I’m seriously uploading photos of my new stationery when I buy it. Muahaha. I love stationery. Especially new stationery. Mmm. And I get paid the day before the 1st. Fate, I tell you. *nod*

I saw Brokeback Mountain, finally. I’ve been wanting to for ages. I loved it, and since I saw it, I have been thinking about it constantly. Turns out I’m not alone, judging from the reviews on IMDB. Reading the bad reviews (the well worded ones) gave me a new insight into how I interpreted the film and why, however. While I think the film was wonderfully done, and the acting was incredible, and the scenery was amazing, and so forth, a few of the reviews made me stop and ask myself the question, “If this had been about a straight couple, would you have enjoyed the movie as much?” Truth be told, I probably wouldn’t have.

People defended Brokeback Mountain against critics, claiming it wasn’t “just a gay cowboy movie”, and they are partly right. It isn’t -just- a gay cowboy movie -but- that is a main theme. If it weren’t for the struggle between Ennis and Jack over their relationship, and each of their personal struggles with their feelings for one another, the movie would be, quite frankly, boring. That’s the point though; it was a movie (based on a short story) about two cowboys and their forbidden love. It was only forbidden because they were both male; therefore homosexuality is a main theme of Brokeback Mountain.

That aside, I found Brokeback Mountain to be a deep, thoughtful movie that was tastefully done and allowed plenty of time or character development. I enjoyed not being slapped in the face with the plot; much of Brokeback Mountain is left open to the viewer’s imagination. I especially liked the feeling of the story not being “explained” to me, but of having the story presented for me to interpret in several different ways.

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were amazing in their representation of Ennis and Jack, and I applaud them for not shying away from the affectionate and intimate aspects of their roles. Anne Hathaway actually played something other than the nice girl, which was a refreshing change (and we got to see her topless! *perve*), and Michelle Williams was a complete surprise, though most definitely a good one.

Bottom line though: If you don’t like the idea of two (very hot) guys going at it in a tent, or kissing (yes, passionately), then Brokeback Mountain probably isn’t for you. You know, I can’t believe I managed to write nearly four paragraphs and not spoil the ending. Go me. *cheer*

As far as TAFE goes, things are pretty sucky. Work, work and more work. Bleh. I need to choose a topic for my end of year assignment.. I think I’ll teach the class how to make a basic webpage. Really basic. Like, barebones basic. Otherwise it will take me an age, and no one will learn anything because I’ll go off on a tangent about web standards in the middle of my speech, and finish up with a rant about Internet Explorer. That would be embarassing.. surely someone would stop me before I humiliated myself? I would hope, anyway.

Hmm, well I will probably find myself posting again tonight, but for now, that is all.
